Faith Doesn't Need the Whole Map
DAILY DEVOTIONALS

Scripture (Hebrews 11:8, NKJV):
"By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going."
Devotional:
There was a time in my life when I cared far too much about what everyone else thought. What would people think if I sold almost everything I owned? What would they say if I packed up my life, loaded my dog into the car, and drove away with only what would fit? Would they think I had lost my mind? Maybe some did. But one day I realized something that changed everything:
I’d rather be misunderstood by people than be disobedient to Jesus.
So I sold what I could. Everything that didn’t fit in my car, I donated to a battered women’s shelter, praying it would bless another woman who needed it more than I did. Then Sweet Pea and I hit the road. I drove five hours east to be baptized at Lakepointe Church because I knew Jesus was calling me to take that step.
The truth is, I didn’t know where He was leading me. I didn’t know what church I’d eventually call home. I didn’t know the people He would place in my life. I didn’t know I’d one day be serving at church, writing a book, or meeting people who would encourage me to keep sharing what Jesus has done. I simply knew He said, “Go.” Looking back now, I can see that every step of obedience led to another blessing. Not because life became easy, but because Jesus became my destination instead of my circumstances.
One of the biggest lessons He taught me is this:
Your stuff is just stuff.
Our homes, our furniture, our cars, our careers, even the things we’ve spent years collecting - they’re temporary. None of those things define who we are. Our identity is found in Christ alone. Sometimes Jesus asks us to loosen our grip on earthly things so we can hold tighter to Him. Obedience often requires us to leave behind comfort before we can experience His purpose.
If you’re feeling stuck today, maybe Jesus isn’t asking you to have the whole plan figured out. Maybe He’s simply asking you to trust Him with the next step. Faith doesn’t require the whole map. It simply requires trusting the One who already knows the destination.
And do you know what Jesus has shown me through all of this?
I didn’t lose anything that mattered.
What I thought I was leaving behind was simply making room for everything He had already prepared for me. Today I have a peace I never knew was possible. I work for people who have been a bigger blessing than I ever could have imagined. I have wonderful roommates who truly feel like family, and I get to be part of a church family that, despite its size, feels like the closest little community I’ve ever experienced. Every week I’m surrounded by people who love Jesus, encourage one another, and remind me that none of us were meant to walk this journey alone.
If you’re afraid to follow where Jesus is leading because you’re worried about what you’ll lose, let my story encourage you: you can never outgive God. His plans are always greater than ours, even when they don’t make sense at first. Looking back, I can honestly say every sacrifice was worth it because what I found on the other side wasn’t just a new place to live - it was a deeper relationship with Jesus, a family of believers, a life filled with purpose, and a peace that no possession on earth could ever give me. I wouldn’t trade this life He has given me for anything.
Questions to consider:
Is Jesus asking me to take a step of faith that I’ve been avoiding because I’m worried about what others will think?
Am I placing more value on temporary possessions than on following where God is leading me?
What is one step of obedience I can take today, trusting that Jesus already knows the road ahead?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for reminding me that faith isn’t about having all the answers - it’s about trusting You even when I can’t see what lies ahead. Just as Abraham obeyed without knowing where he was going, help me to follow wherever You lead.
Teach me to hold loosely to the things of this world and tightly to You. Help me remember that my identity is never found in what I own, where I live, or what other people think of me. My identity is found in being Your child.
Give me the courage to choose obedience over comfort, faith over fear, and Your approval over the opinions of others. If You’re calling me to take a step today, give me the strength to say “yes,” even if I can’t see the whole path.
Thank You for always going before me, preparing the way, and proving that every act of obedience is worth it.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen. ❤️
