Scripture (Isaiah 26:3, NKJV):

"You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You."

Devotional:

Have you ever felt like everything was going wrong at the same time? Maybe you’re stuck in a job you’re unhappy with and can’t seem to find a way out. Maybe your health isn’t where you want it to be. Maybe your car breaks down, bills pile up, relationships feel strained, or one problem after another keeps showing up at your door.

I’ve had seasons like that. Seasons where it felt like every time I turned around, something else was going wrong. It would have been easy to focus on everything that wasn’t working and ask God, “Why?” But I’ve learned that when we spend all our time staring at our problems, we can miss the blessings God is placing right in front of us.

Those seasons can be dangerous if we’re not careful. The enemy wants us discouraged and focused on everything that’s going wrong. He’ll use distractions, comfort, endless scrolling, television, negative thoughts, or anything else that keeps our attention off Jesus. He wants us sitting still, feeling defeated, convinced that nothing is changing. Because if he can keep our eyes on our problems, we’ll miss what God is doing right in front of us.

But that’s not what God calls us to do!!

Sometimes our obedience isn’t doing something big or dramatic. Sometimes obedience is simply getting out of bed. Choosing gratitude instead of bitterness. Going to church when we’d rather stay home. Continuing to pray when we don’t understand what’s happening. Choosing to trust Jesus one more day.

And when we do, something beautiful happens. We begin to notice the blessings that were there all along. Looking back, I can see how God was working while I was focused on the storm. He opened the door to a new job. He surrounded me with amazing people. He placed godly mentors and friends in my life. He put me in a church where I feel welcomed and encouraged. He reminded me that even when I couldn’t see what He was doing, He was already making a way.

The circumstances didn’t change overnight, but my perspective did. Instead of focusing on everything that was going wrong, I started noticing everything God was doing right. Looking back, I wouldn’t have chosen every trial. Also looking back, I can see Jesus in every step of it. I can see how He was providing, protecting, and preparing blessings I couldn’t see at the time. And for that, I am grateful.

Questions to consider:

  1. What are three things I can thank Jesus for today, even if my circumstances aren't what I want them to be?

  2. How might my attitude and outlook change if I chose gratitude over frustration and trust over worry?

  3. What blessings has Jesus placed in my life recently that I may have overlooked?

Prayer:

Jesus, thank you for Your faithfulness, even in the seasons when we struggle to see what You're doing. Help us keep our minds fixed on You and our hearts filled with gratitude. Open our eyes to the blessings You've placed around us, and remind us that You are always working for our good. Give us peace in the middle of our circumstances and help us trust You one day at a time.

In Your name. Amen.
