Scripture (Proverbs 4:23, NKJV):

"Keep your heart with diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life."

Devotional:

Love is not meant to be careless.

God calls us to love - but He also calls us to guard our hearts. That means love should be intentional, not automatic.

Not every person, habit, or situation deserves full access to your heart. When we give access too quickly or too freely, we risk allowing things in that can pull us away from peace, clarity, and truth.

Guarding your heart does not mean becoming closed off or unloving. It means loving with wisdom and discernment. Healthy love

  • draws you closer to truth

  • strengthens your peace

  • aligns with what is good and right

Anything that consistently leads you away from those things should be approached with caution.

Your heart is valuable. It influences your thoughts, your choices, and your direction. Protecting it is not selfish - it is stewardship.

Love people well, but not at the cost of what God is doing in you.

Questions to consider:

  1. Am I giving my heart freely, or am I being intentional with it?

  2. Does what I'm allowing in my life bring peace and clarity, or confusion and distraction? Be honest with yourself here!

  3. What boundaries might I need to protect my heart while still loving others well?

Prayer:

God, teach me to love with wisdom.
Help me guard my heart without becoming hardened.
Give me discernment to recognize what is good and strength to walk away from what is not.
Align my heart with Your truth. Amen.

Amen.
