Scripture (2 Corinthians 5:17, NKJV):

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new."

Devotional:

One of the hardest things to let go of is not always our past actions - sometimes it's the voices attached to them. The enemy loves to replay old labels:

"You'll never change."

"You'll always be broken."

"No one will ever love you."

"Look at your past. Remember this...?"

"Look at your mistakes."

If we're honest, sometimes those voices don't even come from strangers. Sometimes they come from parents, relationships, old friends, people at previous churches, or even ourselves. Over time we begin repeating those words in our own minds until we start believing them more than we believe God.

The thing is... Jesus never asked us to live chained to shame.

When we surrender our lives to Him, He doesn't just forgive us - He makes us new. That does not mean we never struggle again or never remember our past. It means our past no longer has the authority to define us.

Some people may still see the old version of you. Some may only remember your mistakes, but God sees redemption where others see ruin.

The beautiful thing about Jesus is that He can take the very things that the enemy tried to use to destroy us and turn them into part of our testimony. Your story does not have to reach millions to matter. If your healing, honesty, and faith help even one person feel less alone, then your pain was not wasted. Yesterday's shame does not get to narrate today's identity.

  • You are not who people said you were

  • You are not your worst moment

  • You are not disqualified because of your past

However, you are who Jesus says that you are"

  • Loved

  • Forgiven

  • Chosen

  • Redeemed

  • Made new

Questions to consider:

  1. What old labels or voices am I still agreeing with that Jesus already forgave?

  2. Am I viewing myself through my past or through God's grace?

  3. How can my story help even one person feel less alone today?

Prayer:

Jesus, thank you for making me new. Help me stop replaying the words of my past and start believing what You say about me. Teach me to walk in freedom instead of shame and to use my story to bring hope to others. Remind me that I am loved, chosen, forgiven, and never too far gone for Your grace. Help me trust that anything the enemy tried to use against me, You can still turn around for good when I place it in Your hands. Amen.
