Scripture (1 John 4:18, NKJV):

"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. "

Devotional:

Fear has a funny way of showing up uninvited. Sometimes it looks like anxiety about the future. Sometimes it sounds like a thousand “what ifs” running through our minds at 2 a.m. Sometimes it disguises itself as trying to stay in control because we don’t know what tomorrow holds.

The truth is, fear grows where trust struggles.

John reminds us that God’s perfect love drives out fear. Not because life suddenly becomes easy, but because we begin to realize that we are deeply loved by a God who already knows the outcome. The more we understand His love, the less we feel the need to carry the weight of every possible scenario ourselves.

Most of us have spent time worrying about things that never happened. We’ve lost sleep over conversations that never took place, problems that never came, and situations God had already worked out before we even knew they existed. Fear keeps us focused on what might happen, while faith keeps us focused on the One who is already there.

God never asked us to figure everything out. He asked us to trust Him. His love reminds us that we don’t have to earn His approval, fight every battle on our own, or carry tomorrow’s burdens today. We can rest knowing that whatever comes, He will be faithful just as He always has been.

Questions to consider:

  1. What “what if” has been taking up too much space in my mind lately?

  2. Where is God asking me to trust Him instead of trying to control the outcome?

  3. How would today look different if I truly believed God was already working things out for my good?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,

Father, thank You for loving me even when fear tries to take over. Help me stop carrying burdens You never asked me to carry. Remind me that You are already in tomorrow, and I can trust You with today. When fear starts talking louder than my faith, help me remember Your love, Your faithfulness, and all the times You’ve brought me through before. In Jesus’ name, Amen. ❤️
