Scripture (Deuteronomy 5:33, NKJV):

"You shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you shall possess. "

Devotional:

Sometimes we think obedience is about rules. But obedience is really about trust. Every time God asks us to do something, He’s inviting us to trust Him more than our own understanding.

The hard part is that we rarely get to see the whole picture. God may ask us to take a step without telling us where the path leads. He may ask us to forgive when we don’t want to forgive. He may ask us to speak when we’d rather stay quiet. He may ask us to wait when we want to move.

Obedience often requires faith before understanding. Lately, I’ve been reflecting on how many blessings in my life came after a step of obedience. Not because I earned God’s favor, but because obedience positioned me to experience what He was already preparing. What amazes me even more is that our obedience doesn’t just affect us.

When Noah built the ark, his obedience saved his family, when Esther spoke up, her obedience helped save a nation, when the disciples followed Jesus, their obedience helped spread the Gospel throughout the world, and when we obey God today, we may never know whose life is touched because we listened.

A kind word, an invitation to church, a prayer for a stranger, sharing our testimony, or simply choosing to do the right thing when no one is watching can all become part of God’s plan to reach someone else. The enemy wants us to believe that our small acts of obedience don’t matter.

God says otherwise.

I don’t always know if I’m making the right choice. Sometimes I question myself, sometimes I wonder if I’m hearing correctly, but I’ve learned that if my heart is genuinely seeking Jesus and I am willing to obey what He places in front of me, He is faithful to guide my steps. We don’t have to know the entire plan, we just have to take the next step He asks us to take.

Often, the greatest joy is discovering that our obedience became part of someone else’s blessing!

Questions to consider:

  1. Is there something God has been asking you to do that you’ve been hesitant to obey?

  2. Can you think of a time when your obedience led to a blessing for someone else?

  3. What is one step of obedience you can take today, even if you don’t know the outcome?

Prayer:

Father, thank You for loving us enough to guide our steps. Help us trust You even when we don’t understand where You are leading. Give us hearts that are quick to obey and willing to follow wherever You call us. Remind us that our obedience is not only about us, but also about the people You may reach through us. Help us walk faithfully, one step at a time, trusting that You are working all things together for Your glory and our good. In Jesus’ name, Amen.❤️
