Scripture (Matthew 6:34, NKJV):

"Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."

Devotional:

Most of us read this verse and focus on the word trouble. We think Jesus is reminding us that life is hard, and while that’s certainly true, there is a deeper lesson hidden within His words.Every day brings its own challenges. Every day presents circumstances that can test our faith, stretch our patience, and tempt us to take our eyes off God. Yet instead of preparing us for every possible problem that may arise tomorrow, Jesus calls us to trust Him with the problems we face today.

Worry has a way of creating battles that don’t even exist. It convinces us to spend today’s strength on tomorrow’s hypothetical problems. We replay conversations that haven’t happened, fear outcomes that haven’t occurred, and create scenarios that may never come to pass.

Meanwhile, the very faith God is asking us to exercise today gets neglected. Jesus never promised that each day would be trouble-free. In fact, He acknowledged that every day carries enough challenges of its own. But He also taught that God’s grace, provision, and strength are available for today’s challenges.

Faith was never meant to be practiced in imaginary situations. Faith is exercised in the middle of real ones. Instead of asking, “What if this goes wrong tomorrow?” perhaps the better question is, “How can I trust God more today?”

Tomorrow’s grace will arrive tomorrow. Today’s grace is already here. So when worry begins pulling your thoughts into the future, remember that God has not called you to carry tomorrow’s burdens today. He has called you to trust Him in this moment, with this challenge, and with this day.

After all, today’s trouble is enough - and so is today’s grace.

Questions to consider:

  1. Am I spending more time trusting God with today's challenges, or worrying about problems that haven't even happened yet?

  2. What current situation is testing my faith right now, and how can I intentionally choose faith over fear in that area today?

  3. If God's grace is sufficient for today's troubles, what burden am I carrying that I need to surrender to Him and leave in His hands?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for reminding us that we do not have to carry tomorrow's burdens today. Help us to stop worrying about tomorrow and to trust You with the challenges we face today. When our faith is tested, remind us that You are in control and that Your strength is greater than any fear or uncertainty we may feel. Teach us to walk in faith, rest in Your peace, and trust that You will provide exactly what we need, exactly when we need it. In Jesus' name, Amen.
