Scripture (Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV):

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight."

Devotional:

Trust doesn't come easy when life feels uncertain, and your heart is tired of waiting for clarity. But this verse reminds us that faith isn't about figuring everything out - it's about letting go of the illusion that we can. When you lean on your own understanding, you limit what God can do; when you lean on Him, you invite the supernatural into the ordinary.

Every time you release your grip on the outcome, you make room for His peace. Every time you stop rehearsing the "how" and start resting in the "Who," you trade anxiety for assurance. God doesn't ask you to have it all together - He asks you to trust that He does. The very place that feels uncertain right now is where your faith is being refined. He's not ignoring you; He's inviting you to deeper dependence. Walk on step, breathe one prayer, and let Him handle the rest.

This was really speaking to me this morning because I'm stressing over something I want more than anything because I know it's a perfect fit - so I think, but I have to stop stressing and know that God didn't bring me this far to fail Him or myself. Also, I had to tell myself a few times last night and today, "Bobbie Jo, if you were meant to understand it all, you would be God - BUT YOU'RE NOT! I know it can be hard, trust me. I gave up everything to follow Jesus - but I still have to trust and know He is there!

Questions to Consider:

  1. Where in your life are you still trying to control the outcome instead of trusting God with it?

  2. What does "lean not on your own understanding" look like for you today - practically?

  3. How can you remind yourself throughout the day that God already knows the way forward?

Prayer:

Lord, I surrender the need to know every detail and fix every problem. Teach me to trust You more deeply, even when I can't see what You're doing. Replace my worry with worship and my striving stillness. Straighten my path, calm my mind, and let my steps follow Your peace. I trust that Your plan is better than anything I could design. In Jesus' name, Amen.
