Scripture (Ephesians 5:18, NKJV):

"And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit."

Devotional:

Paul wasn't just warning against alcohol - he was drawing a line between what fills you and what fuels you. Whatever controls you, shapes you.

The world says, "Take the edge off." Jesus says, "Let Me transform you from the inside out."

Being "filled with the Spirit" isn't a one-time event; it's a daily refill. Life drains you - people, stress, temptation, exhaustion - and if you're not intentional about what you pour back in, something else will take over.

The truth is, we're all under some influence. For some, it's approval. For others, it's fear, anxiety, or anger. But the Spirit doesn't dull you like the world's version of relief; He awakens you. When He fills you, you don't lose control - you finally gain it.

So don't reach for a temporary fix when you've got eternal power available. God's Spirit isn't a feeling to chase; He's a Person who fills, guides, and empowers you to walk in freedom every day.

Questions to consider:

  1. What "temporary fixes" have I been turning to instead of letting the Holy Spirit fill me?

  2. When do I feel most aware of the Holy Spirit's presence - and how can I invite more of that daily?

  3. What changes when I choose His filling over my own coping?

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, I don't want to be filled with anything that dulls my purpose or quiets Your voice. Empty me of the things that drain my spirit and replace them with Your presence. Fill every corner of my heart until my desires match Yours. Be my strength, my comfort, and my influence today. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
